Topic: Paul Morrison

Paul is relieved that this investigation is finally over and grateful that the special prosecutors, Tim Keck and Robert Arnold, lived up to their promise to conduct an independent investigation. Their investigation was deliberate and thorough and has confirmed what we have maintained from the beginning - Paul is not guilty of any criminal wrong-doing. Any allegations to the contrary were misleading and false.

Paul is also very thankful for the support he has had from friends, colleagues and others from around Johnson County and the State of Kansas who have wished him and his family well throughout this difficult ordeal.

As his attorney, I think it is important to remember that for about 26 years Paul was one of the best prosecutors in the State of Kansas. The Johnson County District Attorneys Office was a model for addressing crime firmly but fairly. As most people know, Paul personally tried some of the most difficult cases and some of the most important cases in Johnson County history. He has the respect of his peers, law enforcement, victims of crime and courtroom observers not just because of his trial skills and work ethic, but because he never sent an Assistant Prosecutor in to court to try a case he wouldn't try himself. He is very proud of his hard work and his accomplishments as the Johnson County District Attorney for 18 years.

Although this matter ended the law enforcement career of one of Kansas' best prosecutors, everyone who knows Paul, knows that he is not a political person and he did not have politcal ambition. Paul is excited about the opportunity to move in a new direction.

Sincerely,

N. Trey Pettlon
